Yeah Tucker, I agree. College admissions are overrated. The SATs and ACTs are just plain stupid. Just apply to a school you want to go to.
Everybody ALWAYS hypes the crap out of this college funding and everything crap. The bottom line is that you should apply for the school you want to go to. And you don't have to go to Standford either to get a decent education. Even UAF gives a pretty decent education I think and its really pretty cheap.
But if you see a school you want to go to, you can probably make it work, although you're going to need to put some effort in on getting scholarships, loans, etc
If I had done it all over again, I would have only taken the SAT once, skpped the ACTs all together, and not gone to half of those meetings about college that the advising dept did.
And besides, if you don't go to college, you're not a failure by any means, as long as you can still do something productive. There are a lot of people at college that really shouldn't be there at all. It's not for everybody.

My dad probably has an IQ of 170 and he does construction work. Dr. Sven haakanson, the world renowed (yes, world) Anthropologist and my "mentor" of sorts got his 4-year from UAF and then went to.. hmm.. Stanford I think. Anyway, yeah. UAF is not a bad school. I am going there at least for my 4-year.

UAF is a decent education, but I'm not too big of a fan of the school's location....

My mom went to college for four years at Gonzaga and got a degree in accounting and business management. Now she's a kitchen supplies salesperson. My dad dropped out of college after three years and now he's the Command Chief of the Coast Guard base. Not that my mom didn't use her degree, she does our taxes every year and we've made some good money on stocks, but sometimes it doesn't matter at all.

gonzaga's got a really pretty campus, and it's pretty big. boring town though, from what i hear (and from a little experience). They go nuts over the basketball season. But I think it'd be a good choice

Everybody I've known that decided to go there was pretty happy with the choice. It's a private school tho, and will be more expensive. They have been known to give decent scholarships, so if you want to go there, look into that.

I don't think their music program is really all that strong... It looks like they have good theatre stuff going on, but I'm not as interested in that as I used to be.

Rachel remember that Gonzaga rep came at the very beginning of the school year? She handed out some info about the school. I might have material lying around for you to look at.

Yeah, I vaguely remember that... If you still had some info on it I'd like to see it but don't worry about it. Where are you looking at, Val?

I want to stay west. Looking into Lewis and Clark, Reed, Willamette, Saint Martin's College (But it's a religious school), and Whitman. Looking for a school that has a great Psychology department, so then I could continue to get my Ph.D in Human Sexuality, and become a sexologist. Also plans to spend a couple of years in the Peace Corp.

if music really is your focus and you(rachel)'re set on the west coast here, Western has a terrific music program. Music has this town consumed kind of. I've told you about walking through the music department before. It's interesting, people playing things in their little rooms and people singing. I should do that again. But then i also heard that UAA had a decent music program, but whatever

Decent won't cut it. Hehe. Yeah, actually I was up late last night looking at WWU's music department homepage... they have a bunch of choirs and ensembles and apparently an excellent opera program. I'd definitely like to look into it. I think everyone from these forums should go to Western. Wouldn't that rock?

I don't like big schools. I have to interact with my teachers and other students. You know me, I'm a people person, that loves her down time as well.

I'm goin' to UAA for a certification in Computers and network technology(just cuz it's good to know) then an Associates of Arts degree, then down to either Western or Gonzaga for a Bachelor's in Sociology, English, or Audio Production(or something like that), then on to film school for another two years so I can be a director, if everything goes awesome, I'll be a director, and if not, I still have those other degrees to fall back on.
