The Cars and Blondie are considered new wave. the Police are a bit, but they are more of a conglomeration of new wave, punk, and reggae. Also, a flock of seagulls, proclaimers.
As far as alternative goes, a lot of my favorite so called alternative bands are mainstream now. Like R.E.M. They had some great "alternative" stuff in the 80s but now those records sound pretty mainstream (at times).
I gotta go back to work, dammit.
I'm not too big of the darkwave (is depeche mode darkwave? they have a few okay songs).

cars are good, and blondie is sometimes. police are just... yeah. i don't like them much. and i've never really liked r.e.m. maybe one or two songs, but not many.
i'm talking about the "underground" scene of the 80's with shoegazing and paisley type stuff.

Outlandos D'Amor by the Police (debut) is much harder than their other albums. I don't like the others nearly as much.
Some others alternative 80s stuff:
Meat Puppets Talking Heads (love em.) Undertones Dire Straits (well maybe not so alternative but definitely different) Boomtown Rats The Jag DEVO Dexy's Midnight Runners (Kevin Rowland) Dinosaur Jr. B-52's (They went to pure pop later, but the early stuff is pretty alternative. Good times, but these guys are definitely swinging for the other team.)
uhh...thats all I can think of for now.

I need to burn some of their cds. I have liked everything I have heard, but I have never really bothered looking for more of their stuff.

Justin is generally clever and funny. That's why I hang out with him. We get each other's jokes. He says some stupid things, but so does everybody else. Even me.
