alright
first of all, don't let it get your hopes down. although the chances say you won't make it anywhere in music (gotta keep that in mind), this article seems to be directed at those who know nothing about a studio and who don't care who they sign with. This goes hand in hand with POP.
If you give a shit and know what you want, you'll most likely be with a label (hopefully) that offers a give-and-take relationship, where they really appreciate you being with them, and where you really appreciate their interest in your music. With a relationship like that, you help each other out.
There have been a couple bands around bellingham that no one's ever heard of that can pay their rent with the money they make playing music. And there's one band you may have heard of (i think they've got a video on mtv now and they're on the same label as Huey Lewis & the News, which are both crazy) called Idiot Pilot (a couple kids from here, bellingham) that merely got ridiculously lucky. They might be the type of band that got screwed as the article states. They still don't seem wealthy as far as i can tell, but they're more "successful" than most of the other bands out of bellingham.
aaaaagh...... the music industry is nothing to rely on, especially if you think you're incredibly awesome. It only happens for you if you get unpredictably lucky. Don't quite your day job, no matter what, until you have enough money to retire and support your parents as well as your anticipated wife and kids with your current balance in your checking account.

I would love to be abused by a record company. I don't care how much money they take that I should get, as long as as many people as possible have access to my music.

If I actually do get it, i plan on building myself a studio out there so i can retire in happiness with hobby

As of right now, my plan is to eventually open a record store, but always leave open the possibility that I'll get signed and wealthy. That's the basic plan, anyway.

I'm going to kick everyone's ass with Metal. Any record label people that still have tangible faces after sitting through it will be the ones that I go with. Fuck retirement.
