I know it's obvious to everyone, and someone probably already wrote this one like eighty times, but I don't care. I just don't care because it is true. Metal is the only type of music worth spending time on, unless that time is spent peeing on crappy music like emo. Then it is time well spent. Discuss this among yourselves, I won't post anymore because I want people to concur independently.

Nic, are you just sitting on your computer all day? Why are you posting questions and not agreeing whole heartedly? Do you think I can write in questions for the rest of this thread?

Do you think I can write in questions for the rest of this thread? i sit at my computer most of the day, im not arguing about lame topics such as "emo sucks" becuase its pointless, you have an opinion, great. and im not sure what you are talking about with that last questions, so im just gonna shake my head and say, ok.

I know I already said that I wouldn't post anymore. This time I mean it. No more posts for me. I won't even look at this website until Thursday. Ha. Just keep writing and agreeing with my correctness and such. Except you, Nic. I don't wanna hear anymore out of you.

The word emo sound cool. Dang. Almost sound like elmo, and everyone agrees that elmo is cool right? right. however, I am in no way condemning or supporting this music style. I will say that metal is a little bit too... headache inducing. Almost like an ant colony has started living in your head, and feasting off your skull. ouch.

Like most things musical, things start off good and then go to shit. Weezer is often credited for being the beginners of Emo. Weezer's 1st album was great in my opinion (although its not really emo). Then things go to shit. THe "emo" put out the last few years is the definition of shitty-who-ever-is-playing-it-needs-to-be-kicked-in-the-nuts crap.
I would hardly say that metal is the only thing worth listening to tho. You're selling yourself short there.
I'd recommend that anybody going to college here take a Music Appreciation class. At UAF its required anyway. It really exposes ya to music you'd never think of exploring.

yeah, really the "emo" genre started with bands in the d.c. area in the early to mid 80's when punk bands started focusing more on lyrical content. there have been several evolutions and i could go on, but what people are popularizing today and what you hear on the radio is more like the bastard child of "emo/mallpunk".

emo= emotional music, correct? that's the thing that get's me. pretty much all music portrays some kind of emotion. what i think was originally meant by "emo" was sensative punk.

Well it would seem emo means emotional because its the first 3 letters of the word...

yes but emo started from the ashes of political punk bands, who were playing punk, but it was more "emotional" and sensative. the lyrics were more introspective and personal.

As opposed to being masively political and angry, they got off their drugs and quieted down and stuff......like goin' from Minor Threat to Fugazi.

The stuff peopel are calling "emo" now is pretty crappy. The older post/punk stuff is pretty sweet. Just because the lyrics mean something doesn't make music worthless.. and just because it isn't fast doesn't make it original. Metal rules, GOOD emo rules, There really are examples of cool stuff from basically any musical "genre" you can come up with.
