Yeah, Manson is more on the side of industrial metal, but see, he's on the bad side of it, when ya get stuff like Prong, or Godflesh, or early Nine Inch Nails, that's some real industrial type stuff, and then ya can get into the whole other sub-genres and stuff, but what I think we all can agree is that nu-metal(all that stuff like Slipknot, Korn, Limp Bizkit, and them junkheads) is terrible, except for stuff like The Deftones.

I don't really like industrial metal. The closest I come to that is Dimmu Borgir and they're more black metal so it doesn't count. I like that we're talking about metal now, though.

Well, some industrial metal's pretty stinkin' cool, most of 'em don't have any solos though, I think the only one that comes close at all is Fear Factory or Ministry, both of them kick ass. Power metal's still gonna kick everything's ass, that and shred metal, or some awesome combination of the two(reads: DragonForce).

Alright people, we've discussed how much metal rules, now lets talk about how much emo sucks. It shouldn't be that hard.

Her comes a serious post in a serious thread. Don't get used to it. Emo sucks for some of the following reasons:
-The songs are, generally, simply BORING and poorly written.
-Having good lyrics doesn't make you a loser. Making it the focus of your music DOES. There are exceptions, but they aren't emo, so I won't go there.
-The lyrics aren't even good, just depressed. Every 12-year-old middleschool pseudo-intellectual dipshit thinks ambiguous lines like "fall through a breath of sorrow" are deep. THEY AREN'T. GET A CLUE, MORON.
-They dress like hippocratic dipshits. Yeah, I'm all cool and anti-censorship and anti-corporation and shit, check these expensive shoes and this $60 T-Shirt. How cool am I? (yeah, I wear $80 shoes, but I don't pretend I'm against it. I wear them because I think they look cool and look good on me, not because they are $80)
Enoguh for now. I will have more later.

have you checked out some of the new metal, menarche. prettys scary stuff. here are some big ones, the d.c. scene is crawling with the stuff. generally its just called metal over there, but some people call it scremo (i'm certain you could figure it out, but... scream+emo=scremo).
check out the locust, mohinder, dilinger escape plan and combat wounded veteran. these guys are kind of the big names in the whole scene. its funny, though. you'll go to a show and some crazy metal band will play with some uber sensitive emo-ish band and everyone loves the whole show. i think its good to be well rounded. i've even started tuning into country stations while i drive, there are quite a few songs i actually like.
so...my point, if you are spending all your time listening to metal, i think that you are wasting most of it.

I haven't really read this whole thread, but this is just my little input on the whole Emo vs. Metal thing:
What's wrong with liking both? I like so many different kinds of music. I wouldn't listen to all emo or all metal or even just the two. I look into the musicality aspect of ALL genres (except maybe Country-sorry) and go from there. Some jazz may be awesome, some classical, whatever. I'm not going to look at a person and be like "Ew, they're so emo" or "Oh my gosh, they must be goth" or "that metal guy is suck a freak".
I may be way off topic to what is going on in this conversation right now, but whatever. I don't know exactly what I'm trying to say either. Ah well.
Oh, and about the lyrics in emo- just because the poetry aspect of song writing is more important to some than the actual music shouldn't make it "suck". I think that being able to put words down eloquently is just as important than being able to make music. Both are important, I think, it just depends on the type of music you're making or what has compelled you to make that music in the first place. Maybe in general emo song-writers don't have the most profound lyrics, but then again neither do many other styles of music.
So in the end, to each his own. If you want to dress from Gap or Hot Topic or garage sales, thenwho cares? Good for you!
And kudos to those people who KNOW what they like and can defend that. I'm not trying to change anyone's view, this is just mine.

Well, writin' poetically and eloquently is easy, to do it and not make yerself sound like a pseudo-intellectual pile of human waste, is something else entirely......

Andy, is it easier to write an apostrophe at the end of "writing" than it is to just write a "g?" Goddamn I hate you.

I think that's a good point. And.. uh.. I'm really not sure what makes you think you shuld force-develope a Michigana ccent. Are you from Michigan? No. Emo sucks.

I type the way I talk, without using the full form of the word, as it would apper, and a Michigan accent has nothing to do with it, it's a word that I started using after heavy exposure to folks from Michigan.

Which metal sucks? If you tell me which bands you don't like we can extend this forum into what metal is shitty (that is, if I agree with you) and it would be awesome.
