Okay, well, I'm looking at investing in some effects pedals. The main ones I want are Delay and Flange, but there are some other thigns I want too (reverse tape effect, that sort of obscure stuff). I am thinking about just buying the flange and delay pedal and not worrying about anythign else, but here's my question: would it be better for me to invest in an effects board type thing? With all the different settings and whatnot? As you can see, I don't know mucha bout them. I am just wondering what you guys think. Justin, I know hwat you think, about cheater pedals and whatnot. That's not what I need them for, so don't. It will just spark un-needed argument.

i guess just go for the pedals man. a board is only good if you're going to use all it has to offer (or most of it anyway.)

Well.. I think I'd use a pretty good chunk of it.. but not very often. I think I'll just go with the pedals.

most of the higher end gear has a whole hell of a lot of parameters. it's good to know what they do so that you know how to get what you want. I'm pretty sure they don't come with manuals describing the parameters for a board of effects. Then again, I've never had one myself, I've only seen the one in the studio. On those, they assume you know what you're doing.

that's my beast. it has 85 banks, each with 4 patches. it's pretty awesome but at $400 only good if you are really going to use it. it came with a manual and stuff but i never read the manuals. i start to, but then i get bored and just have to play it. i'm pretty sure it covers the parameters though.

I like the Subway card for scale. Yeah, I've seen that thing. i think I'm just gonna go with the pedals.

Yeah, that's a good idea. If all you really want is a delay and a flange, you should spend less money getting two pedals that are designed to make one sound really well instead of one big box designed to make a whole bunch of adequate sounds. Not that all boards are like that (don't whine at me Andrew). Some sound really good and can give you a great sound, but if you're willing to invest in a large processor, you might consider rack-mounted equipment. This gives you the same (or superior) processing power in less space with more editing options and-usually-better tone.

sweet heyzeus, drewish, when did you get that gnarly beasty. pretty rad. i don't even play the electric anymore, and that thing still got me all excited. i've been hanging onto my digi delay still though, you know i live off of that thing. holla.

That thing sounds beastly, too. It makes everything you play sound like you're either God or Yngwie even if you're just slopping around (not that Andrew needs the help).

nice lookin boss
i'm sure it handles effects just as well as an individual pedal of the same type. Whiddon had one of those and he got a sound out of it through a shitty amp that rivalled that of the later NoFX albums (distortion, of course, but we were still a punk cover band).
sweet deal.
but his cost $600 at the time, and it shorted with a breaker switch
