I am ready to start recording. Yeah, rghty then. Okay, help me out here. I need to know what I need to have as far as Mic(s?), mixer, and any programs I should have on my computer. I won't be recording directly to my computer. Well, I wont be recording at all until I have a mic and mixer/4-track/8-track whetever thing. So... tell me what I should buy, eh?

Just guitar (with stereo effects running through two amps). Not really. Couple hundred bucks.

you could easily spend lots of dollars on recording equipment forrest, but this little sucker and a 20 dollar mic is all you need www.musiciansfriend.com/srs7/g=home/search/detail/base_pid/240239/ it worked just fine for yeti causes trainwreck and yaefer, and it will work even better for you since your only recording guitar. seriously. at least borrow ryans and try it before you spend lots of unnecisary money.

That is the first post you've made in a while that I appreciate. Thank you. I'll talk to Bateman and see if I can get his for a week or two.

you just need the capabilities of recording through two channels, one mic, and of course a cable suited to fit the mic and your interface. for the "stereo effects" you can just record one, pan it left or right, then record the other, pan it right or left. they do it all the time with dirty guitar. it's a real non-cheesy chorus. but you like cheese, so whatever suits you.

All of our recordings are made on a cheap little computer desktop microphone using PIXELA, then converting the WAV files to mp3 using, um, BPowercode or something...
It doesn't matter how much you spend on all the recording equipment, it's what is used as an input device. If you have a crappy mic, your $2000 recording studio will make crappy sounds. If you have a good sound card you can get Pro Tracks or Cakewalk, run your stuff through a small mixer and run an rca adapter from your computer. There's a lot of different ways. If you want it to sound best you need a usb or firewire input device that can run multiple tracks on your computer. You can check out Sekerak's digitech, RPx400, it does this.

Or I could buy an analog 4-track and a decent mic and not worry about tons of technical junk. This is my plan, by the way.

Well, you asked what programs you could use. And there is no technical issues of the pedal. You plug your guitar in the guitar plug, plug the mic in the mic plug, then plug the pedal into your computer. (this is very simple) However we havn't figured out how to put more instuments into it. Actually, we just ran out of cables and coudln't get it all hooked up. But if you want more instuments you can get an unpowerd mixer for under $100 and just plug it into your computer. (This won't mix as well but you can have as many instuments as you have channels) A multitrack recorder is really simple. As you already know. (Very simple but mixing is poor on lower end recorders) And then there is the computer mic. Simple, easy, plain, and may even have your highs and lows cut for you!

does your computer have a quarter inch input? how are you going to plug a pedal into the computer without an interface?

justin's pedal has a usb port. To run a mixer into a computer you can use a an rca/mini audio connector, some mixer units have firewire and double as a program interface tool. I think the cheapest way to go would be to borrow ryan's multitrack and see if you like it.

I think you guys misunderstood what Forrest meant by "stereo effects" and the two amps part. He has a delay pedal that can be plugged into two amps with the dry signal going to one and the repeats going to the other. All he needs is to put two mics about a foot apart out in front of the amps and record them to two tracks panned hard left and right. His new Traynor amp rocks, by the way.

with one being delayed, you'll probaby need different distances for the mic placement. phase issues. it sounds really bad and uncomfortable when things are noticably out of phase.
