think about it.
singing- cardio and abs.
drumming- cardio, biceps, calves, forearms, and shoulders.
guitar- forearms and finger dexterity.
marching- thighs, calves and cardio.
musicians aren't just lazy bums.... (i'm trying to boost some self esteem here)
if you want proof that it works, tim is our poster boy. we developed this program after some inspiration from a day of singing and coaching from rachel.

think about it. singing- cardio and abs. drumming- cardio, biceps, calves, tibials, right quad, forearms, and shoulders. guitar- forearms and finger dexterity. marching- thighs, glutes, calves and cardio. musicians aren't just lazy bums.... (i'm trying to boost some self esteem here) if you want proof that it works, tim is our poster boy. we developed this program after some inspiration from a day of singing and coaching from rachel. my shoulders are sore from rocking hard, and I'm exhausted from singing all day. If I can keep this up, I'll never be fat.

Air Guitar with backup vocals. The ultimate workout.
Hehe. I saw "Richard Simmons' Disco Fever Workout" at salvation army a while ago. No, I didn't get it.

I do the guitar and singing, but for the other stuff I lift weights and run. I play guitar alot more than all of the other stuff combined, though.

And you don't need music if you're doing martial arts, you don't even have to do a wide variety of martial arts, just whatever yer doing, yer getting most of yer muscles.

But music is better than martial arts. I would rather go see Kenny G. covering the Slipknot catalog than a martial arts exhibition. Music is just more enjoyable.

[hippie shit that justin will make fun of me for because he's an asshole and doesn't want to admit to feeling this same thing] martial arts doesn't require so much from the depths of the soul, as arts do. sure, meditation requires close examination of the soul, but it is not required by martial arts. music, and art for that matter involves expression and inspiration, while martial arts does as well, but not to the extent of regular arts. I'm going to agree with Andrew, partly because I do but mostly because he said I wouldn't. You have to be able to put feelings through your hands (or voice, or lips, or feet) to play music. That's why there can never be a "best" guitarist or pianist or singer, because everyone puts different feelings and experiences into their music. Martial arts have bests, because it's just impersonal and purely technical.
And.....Andrew is a hippy.

Martial arts have bests, because it's just impersonal and purely technical. Bullshit, there is no best, too much variant styles, and philosophies, there is no best, because, you cannot learn enough in your lifetime to be the best, sure, there's world champions, but even beyond that, you have the people who don't participate in competitions, if you think that martial arts are in any way less personal, spiritual, or less from the soul than music in any way, you are wrong. Plain and simple. If anything, they are on equal footing.

I lug around my 60 lb combo amp, lift weights, meditate, and ride my bike. And I play guitar. A lot. muscular, cardiovascualr, and spiritual excercise. I am set. As far as martial arts vs. music, since I am awesome and benevolent and a little kickass, I will intervene with the true answer: Nobody gives a shit. I play guitar, Andy kills rats with his pecs and breaks wood with his eyes or whatever. Big deal.
