maiden is a bit of a novelty thing for me too. really, when people sing in falsetto about mideavel times and the devil and burning villages, it makes me laugh. it's kind of like fantasy books, only for your ears...some people really get into those fantasy books...and...well...i'll stop...but i think i'd kind put metal heads into a similar croud as those fantasy book role playing kids. maybe illiterate fantasy book-role playing kids. run to the hills, kid-o. run for your life. I think you're thinking of Manowar more than Iron Maiden. Maiden sing more about history than fantasy-book battles and such. But they also sing about lots of other stuff, like cloning in "New Frontier" or about a prostitute that used be your girlfriend in "Charlotte the Harlot" and "22 Acacia Avenue" alot of times they sing about the feeling before death, like in "Hallowed Be Thy Name" and they sing about political apathy in "Face in the Sand" they sing anti-war songs like "Afraid to Shoot Strangers" and "Paschendale" they sing about literature such as in "The Trooper" (which is based on The Charge of the Light Brigade) or "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" (which is obvious). I'm not going to call you stupid, because you already said you don't really get into metal, but you're wrong about Maiden.

Justin, that was a few things: an excellent, conscise response to Brandon's opinion, and, it was respectful and mature. I respect that, even though I'm not sure you care. I know I'm off topic, I just wanted to congratulate you.

If Maiden is like fantasy books, then is emo like romance novels?
(Was that more in character, Forrest?)

No I think emo is more like those books my sister reads called like "One Last Wish" or something like that, anyway, the books are all about folks with terminal illnesses that are depressed and stuff and want to be with their lovers, who also have terminal illnesses and have the only working part to save their partners kinda stuff, also, if ya really want a run-down on the fantasy-book metal, listen to the following Manowar Avantasia Savatage Blind Guardian Rhapsody Edguy Helloween HammerFall Kamelot Freedom Come Nightwish
Justin and I can suggest more if yer actually interested And if yer into orchestrated stuff at all, check out: Apocalyptica Trans-Siberian Orchestra Berlin Philharmoniker Orchestra & The Scorpions Symphony X

You seem to be quite an expert on emo novels, Andy. Just an observation.

"Oodles" is a word that you don't think anything about when you read it, but realize is really a prissy little word when you say it out loud.

I believe the music you're thinking of is called "shit." Metal is about melody and heaviness blended together with a little bit of Satanism to produce the perfect music. Check out someone like Manowar (whose best album is called "Kings of Metal") and notice that they aren't as heavy as Maiden. Since you admit to not having studied metal that closely, take my word for it. Iron Maiden is the textbook definition of heavy metal. i could name andy's and my album "Ambassadors of Metal" If you've heard the song we've released, you'd get my point.
