Last night, I drove to Virginia Beach, VA with Jonathan and Julia to see the bands Armor For Sleep, Recover, and Say Anything play in this tiny ass club for 10 bucks.
It was freaking brilliant.
Say Anything came onstage and killed. They were this rag-tag group of musicians but they were fun as hell. In fact, they were just sooo lively, that there wasnt a person in the house that DIDNT enjoy their show.
Recover puts on one of the best live shows that i have ever seen, and during the last song, the singer, (who is like 6' 5" jumped into the crowd, and ended up kicking one of the ceiling panels out, and with it, came a large portion of the HVAC unit, it was a sight to see....they played rockin' songs like "simple" and "fuck me for free". The lead guitarist actually played a solo in one or two songs, and he had this tube hooked up next to his microphone that ran into a pedal...when he played his solo, he blew into the tube and it gave this crazy sounding effect. That was pretty awesome to watch.
Armor For Sleep has a new album coming out TOMORROW, and they played new songs from that, as well as songs from their first album. They rocked the mic like a hurricane. Everyone was singing along to every word, and getting all crazy...some douche tried to jump off the bar into the crowd and got his ass kicked out of the club. He also lost his shoe. There was a cameraman there and Im sure he got all the action on film...Id love to get a copy of that tape.
Awesomeness times TEN. Check out any or all of these bands, and even if you dont care for their recordings, just know that their live show KILLS. And thats what really matters anyways.
Peace out, Fons

damn you alfonso and your convenient living locale with close proximity to public displays of sonic rampages of fury.
that effect is called a talk box, by the way. it was popularized by guitarists in the 70's by funk groups, but is most well known for it's use in "do you feel like we do?" by peter frampton.

Peter Frampton is THE MAN. I think he could have whatever babe in the world if he wanted. Haha. Sorry, that was off subject.

The fact was, I was just trying to share some of my good experience with others. For you to come stab the air with hollow words, mostly derived from your shallow mind, it shows severe insecurity on your part. I'm willing to take that a step further, and challenge you to (although this might prove quite difficult for you) think before you speak, and consider the fact that: Uh oh, although your attempt to provoke me, or even cause me to real in self defense, might have made you chuckle, or even feel superior, the fact remains that a) you are stuck on an island b) you will continue to live on that island c) other people DO have different musical tastes than you d) I didnt respect your shallow opinions before, and obviously you havent changed, thus proving that I STILL wouldnt waste a moment of my life listening to your abuse of my thoughts e) Without chance to experience new things, other than the same monotnous things that you will continue to do for years to come, casting stones at me will NOT make you the bigger man. f) No matter how much shit you talk, I will still laugh at you. g) I own you. Partly because I have an open mind, also because I am me, and care little for the rantings, mood swings, brash disregard, and sheer stupidity of certain people. "I will smile till my face falls off my head" Good night and God Bless

There are lots of people in this country who could use a lecture like that.

but giving the lecture exposes a soft spot Well, obviously, we already know that he likes those bands, therefore, there remains a distinct possibility that he may become offended after repeat insults, and retaliated in a more eloquent fashion, as he did.

Saying that you have an open mind is the same thing as saying that you know your own opinions are wrong so someone else must be right. Things that aren't right or wrong like music are different, but I can't respect someone with a seriously open mind.
And no, I couldn't be wrong.

One more thing, any band where it's a surprise when the LEAD GUITARIST plays a solo on ONE OR TWO songs is not worth my time. Every song deserves a solo, I demand it.

Disagree on post one, Leedy, agree on number 2. Any good hard rock/metal song deserves some sort of solo.
Haha. That reminds me of Blue Oyster Cult, who does sorta jazz saxaphone solos on their song "Monsters" when the rest is hard rock. It sounds pretty weird, but its sorta cool.

A lot of people assume I don't have an open mind because they don't really understand what that means. Most of the people that say that are the kind that say "I could be wrong, though" or, "but that's just me" after everything they say and aren't sure of any of their opinions. I think of having an open mind as meaning that I can listen to other people's opinions and decide for myself whether they make sense logically or not. I already have decided on most of my opinions through examining them from the angles that people would attack them from and kept the ones that held up.

If I realize that I've been wrong, I'll admit it. But I'm not going to consider myself someone that can't make up his own mind because other people have stupid opinions. The worst person is the kind that can't admit that other people are wrong. It's alot easier to be open to everything than to confine yourself to what you believe to be true and discount what you believe to be wrong.
