I bet you wouldn't even compete in the weak music scene of Bellingham. You and your precounted blessings. They're going to make your ass sore with all their biting.

I'm not certain what you mean, Tim. The Operators are just a fun dancing band to play with, I bet we could probably do alright in a place with a little more opportunity but we aren't even going to be a band after this month because everyone is getting scattered about the globe.

It's not really that we're all that good, it's just that everyone else sucks so much ass that we look awesome by comparison.

ysr would have been good if they didn't have so many technical problems. a lot of people would be good if they had better equipment. the equipment shortage/quality of kodiak is what's keeping people down. it's always unbalanced too. the rich kids who don't have passion have nice equipment and vice versa. maybe it's because they start off with good stuff. maybe they should have bad crap to begin with, but after a year or two they get a nice amp or drum heads, and then a year later a nicer instrument.

a lot of people would be good if they had better equipment. i think good equipment would make the defacadets worse. because we go against the grain. we rebel. we are rebels.

Hehe...re-bells.
Ande's mostly right about the good equipment and the good players. I started out with a hundred and fifty dollar eBay guitar and a tiny little amp with a ten inch speaker and I had to get a job for a summer to afford my Carvin and Marshall setup that I use now. I know Forrest had to work with some REALLY shitty gear before he got his Carvin and his Marshall (later Traynor). Ande did start out with that Mustang, but he didn't have a good amp until he was in eighth grade. But most people that aren't passionate kind of have crap gear. James Brooks, for example. The guy who, IN THE MIDDLE OF A SONG, took his bass off, set it down, and then walked away and sat down. I almost couldn't believe it when he did that.

Nice gear will make a good player sound great and a poor player sound like a rich dipshit. A substantial deal of good/signature/passionate sounding drumming has to do with how you tune your skins, but even well-tuned heads on bad gear can sound hollow and cheap, even with a good player hitting them. It makes them sound like they just don't care enough to get better equipment. As Leedy sort of cryptically said: good sounding gear shows that the user wants to sound good.

I actually wasn't trying to say that, I was just kind of observing. But thanks for making me look smarter, Tim!

This goes for other instruments as well, this is just the only one I know much about. I'm pretty much an idiot when it comes to the construct of a guitar or the electronics of a keyboard, or what have you. But, you know, same deal.
